A thermostatic radiator valve allows you to control the temperature in the room. It will stop the hot water circulating, once the air temperature reaches the required temperature. This one has numbers which are not temperatures but the temperature will be higher as the number goes up. it is not very precise but the temperature increase as you turn the numbers up. When a room is not in use, the valve can be turned down to save using heat unnecessarily.
The valves are not very expensive but will make a big difference to the heat wasted. So it is worth installing them before doing anything else. When the boiler is on, each radiator will be receiving heat until it reaches the temperature corresponding to the number. (N.B. individual valves may vary as to the number corresponding to a particular temperature.) There are also more complicated, and more expensive, radio-controlled systems which allow you to set a schedule for each room's temperature independently. |
