If your house is older and the walls have no cavities, one option is to attach insulation on the outside. It will alter the appearance of the outside of the building. You will probably need planning permission and it may not be allowed in a conservation area. You will also need to have scaffolding, which will add to the cost.
The picture on the left shows a solid wall without a cavity. If your wall contains ends of bricks, then it is unlikely to have a cavity. |
On the right the pictures show 2 stages of the external insulation work on a house. It appears that only front has been insulated but it may be that the other walls have insulation inside.
